We were contacted by a potential new client who was interested in discussing options for upgrading their back yard entertaining area. They had bought the twenty year old house several years earlier and were unhappy that the only place to relax or entertain outside was a very small concrete pad.
We scheduled an Initial Consultation to meet the client in person and to talk more about what they were looking for. The Homeowners had always done their own landscaping in the past and had some preliminary ideas about what they wanted.
At that first meeting we brainstormed a few design ideas. They were interested in expanding the outdoor living space and updating the landscaping which had become a little overgrown. They were also interested in a small seating wall and a fire pit or fireplace. When I left I had a very good idea what they were looking for. Our job was to prepare a design that would fulfill all of their requests and provide the client with a road map to achieving what they wanted.
We prepared a Landscape Design that significantly expanded their outdoor living space. The new space would give them room for a table and chairs for Al Fresco Dining as well as space for Lounge Chairs. Our design also included a small seat wall which defined the space and added more informal seating.
I contacted the client to let them know that the design was ready and we set up another appointment to review it together.
At that next meeting, I reviewed the client’s main requests from our Initial Consultation and then presented our design and our ideas for fulfilling those requests. We also presented the budget for the project with the costs broken down by area in case the client wanted to break the project up into phases to be done over time. Overall, the clients loved the design and were really excited about the project. They decided that they wanted to proceed with the entire project and get it all done at once.
There were a few small revisions to the design. The seat wall was downsized so that it would not limit the view of the back yard from the back of their house. The client also decided that having a built in fire pit or fireplace would take too much useable space so they opted for a Portable Chimanea. The original design included a Paver Patio but the client decided that they wanted to discuss options to upgrade to a different product and look.
We searched for and found three different paving materials that fit the clients vision and that we thought that they would like. We obtained samples of each and gave them to the client to think about and decide on.
The project went off without a hitch and the end result is everything that the client expected and more.
